1.  German Silver is an alloy that was proposed for U.S. coins as early as 1854 and was actually used in some U.S. patterns. Later in the 19th Century, Dr. Lewis Feuctwanger proposed a version of German silver as a replacement for copper in U.S. cents. The 1952 5 and 10 centavo pieces of El Salvador contain this alloy. Coins made from German silver have a distinctive bright yellow appearance when new that is dulled after considerable wear. The alloy consist of:
