The "creatively toned" 1804 quarter pictured here illustrates
perfectly why the COIN DOCTOR came into being and why the DOC is so adamantly opposed to
"coin doctoring" of any sort. Most experienced numismatists would agree that the
unnatural color on this piece is a case of "enhancing" gone awry. It's appalling
how many coins have already fallen victim to at best, overzealous, and at worst, criminal,
"improvement." That's why the COIN DOCTOR implores you NOT to clean, tone,
re-tone, bake, paint, dip, toast, whiz, smoke, buzz, touch-up, wipe, brighten, soak, cook,
coat, strip, energize, brush or otherwise screw with coins. So if what you're looking for
is a "How To" on coin doctoring, we suggest you look somewhere else. Maybe you
could find a more appropriate web page.....possibly something titled:
in his
heart and too much time on his hands.
